What do you do for fun?

MS Awareness Month 2021, Day 19

Fun means different things to different people. I’ve always been a rather reclusive girl. I love reading, writing, knitting, yoga, and playing musical instruments; all of which are basically solitary activities. They bring me joy. They are stress-free and can be set aside when I am done for the day. The only drama that exists is what I make.

As time goes by I have added socialization to my list of fun things to do. We have a mountain camp and have developed close ties with other folks in the campground. These relationships have spilled over outside the campground. In September a dozen of us are going to the beach together for a week. We’ll share responsibilities and visit much like we do when we’re camping; actually, the biggest difference will be the setting. The point is our relationships have grown into a more family attitude with the common interests we share. We have fun together.

Not only is March MS Awareness Month, but it is also the month college basketball fans anticipate all year. March Madness is all about competition, not only between teams across the country but with the bracketology of the event. My husband and I filled out our brackets yesterday and placed them on the coffee table in the Mountaineer Room downstairs so that we can monitor our progress. There is no betting involved. We just enjoy the competitive process. It gives us a PURPOSE. (Funny how all the lessons we’ve talked about so far kind of meld together, huh?)

Tonight officially opens the NCAA Tournament. We will celebrate by hosting a small get-together with two of those camping friends, brackets displayed, a cold beverage at our side. We will open March Madness by watching our beloved West Virginia University play in their first game of the tournament.

It’s fitting. Today is Friday. Let’s have FUN!

Did you know that laughter burns calories? Laughing for 10–15 minutes burns between 10 and 40 calories. Laughing ignites endorphins that elevate mood and an overall sense of well-being.

We’ll be burning calories tonight! Moods will be elevated!

We WILL be having fun!

Have a great weekend.
